Web Site Directory Menu

The next step is to begin the fundamentals of development, starting with a Directory Menu – the foundation of your entire web site. To create and manage your Directory Menu, click the “Menu” item in the Object CMS panel. Note that you can create more than one Directory Menu, offering a different list of selections on specific pages that do not require the standard Directory Menu items of the main frame.

Click the “Add” button and type a name for your Directory Menu. The default name for your first Directory Menu is “first”. Click the “View” option to see a list of all Directory Menus. On the right side of the screen, you will see a list of options – Show, Add, Edit, Up and Down.

Click “Show” to see the specific details of your Directory Menu. To add a new item to your menu, select “Add”, then type in the Name and and Text of your Menu Item. These are generally the same. For example, a Products button would be named “Products”, with the visible text on the button reading “Products”. You may supply a Description for the new menu item (very important for SEO aspects). To make the menu item clickable, check the box labeled “Clickable”. Be sure to enter the URL of the page in which the menu item should be directed to. Note that there is a Drop-Down Menu next to the “URL” text area that displays all current Locations (pages) within your web site. You may choose the URL from this locations box rather than manually entering the corresponding URL.

The details of a Directory Menu item may be changed at any time by clicking the “Edit” option, or removed completely by clicking “Del” (“Delete”).

Once a Directory Menu item has been created, you may add Sub-Menu Items by clicking the “Add” option to the right of the Menu Item (while in the “View” section of Menu). The process is the same as creating a new directory Menu Item. Type in a Name, Text and Description for the Sub-Menu Item. If the item is to be clickable, mark the check-box next to ”Clickable” and type (or choose from the drop-down menu) the corresponding URL.
